Performance-based teaching is an approach that encourages the student to progress with excitement and a feeling of success. It also gives the parents an opportunity to experience their children's success as well. Vocally, it's the only way to really understand the details involved when connecting with an audience. This skill is as individual as each song's development, and as each student's interpretation and personality begins to shine through the lyrics.
Val's passion for teaching how to perform was the basis for her opening The Music Corner in Lee's Summit, MO back in 2013. The Mid America Music Festival was a yearly performance event for all her young musicians. Piano, Guitar, Violin, and Voice students all took part in this major event. The festival was held in Kansas City and alternates with Omaha and St. Louis. Students were given 2 contrasting songs to memorize. One is a test piece and the other a choice piece; both of which would demonstrate the students ability level at that time. Students were graded and those receiving a score of 95 or better received a trophy. Students were given the opportunity to hear some of the best in the midwest if they stay for performances on Sunday. Our studio had hundreds of winners and always produced superior performances.
Recitals were held yearly and these afford all our teachers to show off their students. Parents and grandparents were always invited. We scheduled several of these back to back as we now have several hundred students.
The "Icon Series" was a vocal and an acoustic event held monthly at different venues in and around Kansas City. This enabled our singers to sing in front of audiences and connect with them. Microphones, props, staging and acting all became part of this experience. We also did group performances on occasion.
"The Legends" was a yearly event in a larger auditorium with our very best singers. This event was designed to give the singers experience with a larger room as well as promote them for future events.
Outdoor festivals, weddings, parties, talent shows, arena events, commercials, American Idol, The Voice, X Factor, and all the possibilities to shine are available when you get involved with our Vocal lessons. We teach confidence and audience connection.
